The following diagram illustrates the high level overview of the WSO2 Private PaaS layered architecture:
WSO2 Private PaaS is built on top of the Apache Stratos PaaS framework. You can run WSO2 products on cloud environments, Docker and Virtual Machines using cartridges. A cartridge is a Docker or a Virtual Machine image which includes the WSO2 product distribution, cartridge agent, cartridge agent plugins, configurator, WSO2 product template module and JDK.

Private PaaS can run on Amazon EC2, OpenStack, Google Compute Engine (GCE) and on Kubernetes with Docker based cartridges.
